here is the time of day when you should definitely not go to vote

Ding-dong, it’s almost time to vote! On June 9, millions of Belgian citizens will head to the polling stations to give their vote during the federal, regional and European elections.

But be careful, we don’t vote at any time. Indeed, polling stations are open from 8:00 a.m. and will close at 2:00 p.m. where a paper vote is organized (i.e. in Wallonia). In electronic voting stations (in Brussels), the doors will close at 4:00 p.m. Any voter who is in the polling station before the closing time of the office will be authorized to vote.

But outside this time slot, you will no longer be able to vote, you will therefore not have fulfilled your duty as a citizen and risk sanctions.

To avoid !

On the other hand, there are better times in the morning/day to vote. Obviously, we tend to think that many people plan to take advantage of a trip to the bakery or the market to make a detour to the polling station. It is therefore early in the morning that we should see the most people in the voting booths.

Elections 2024: mistakes not to make on your ballot

And if the best time to avoid lines seems to be midday, there is a time that you absolutely must avoid to avoid unpleasant surprises. In fact, it regularly happens that polling stations find themselves lacking assessors. During every election, people invited to help at a polling station fail to show up. They also risk a lot. And the problem is that when we lack an assessor, we tend to appeal… to the first voters. The first people to enter the office are invited to spend the day there.
