It was at the end of her twenties that Amandine Bégot began to consult to understand the illness that had been gnawing at her for some time, but unfortunately, she had a complicated experience with a specialist. “I went to see a surgeon who, supposedly, was a genius and who told me: 'Listen ma'am, you're going to have to operate. We're going to put an artificial anus on you – so with a pocket – it will go better and you will never have children'. And there, I looked at him and I said: 'Do you know the job I do?', which is still a job of images. Would you imagine a TV presenter with her pocket?”remembers the famous journalist mother.

Following this traumatic consultation, Amandine Bégot began to do research of her own to find out more about the illness that was gnawing at her. I discovered hell. Seven years on average to be diagnosed… Well, I was very well taken care of, not operated on at all, by a fantastic team at the Saint-Joseph hospital in (14th arrondissement), which is extraordinary. Afterwards, I said to myself: 'But in fact, I wouldn't have been a journalist, honestly, I'm not sure I wouldn't have had surgery from this guy who told me that I need to have an operation'”she explains to our colleagues, before saying a little more about the consequences of endometriosis on her daily life at the time: “It is not a question of life or death, it's just a life that is honestly very, very degradedbut I said to myself that we have to tell people that there is no no fatalitythat we can be taken care of.”

Although she is now much better, Amandine Bégot is not completely out of the woods. “It is a disease from which there is no cure, it is under control (…) There are two medicines: a pregnancy which soothes and otherwise menopause”she indicates to Buzz TVbefore discussing this complicated period where she had to deal with illness at the same time as her everyday work: “I remember taking ultra strong medications just before going on air to be able to hold on. It’s really painful.”

Speaking to RTL Girls in 2019, she already spoke about this illness: “You have to realize, it's not just 'my stomach hurts a little'. I had pain all over my lower back, all of your legs are cramped, you have the impression that you can't stand. To give an idea of the magnitude of the pain, when I gave birth, my gynecologist told me: 'You'll see, contractions are less worse than endometriosis.' Indeed: in times of crisis, endometriosis causes terrible pain.”
