For several days, the western United States has been affected by extreme temperatures, placing the states of Arizona and Nevada on alert for severe heat.
Firefighters mobilized
According to the American television channel ABC15, the outside temperature rose to 43°C at the time of the Republican candidate’s election rally in Phoenix. Crowded under the sun outside the church where the meeting took place, some people were subject to fainting.
Phoenix firefighters said they transported 11 people to the hospital for treatment.
A heat record
Several regions of Arizona, California and Nevada have broken heat records, specifies the American news agency Associated Press, notably the Death Valley national park located in the Californian desert, with a record of 50°C recorded this Thursday.
Las Vegas also hit a new heat record with 43.8°C, with Clark County firefighters reporting they responded to at least 12 emergency calls. The high heat alert is extended until Saturday in the city.
Since Thursday, former President Donald Trump has started a campaign tour with a first stop in Phoenix. This is the first public event organized by the billionaire since his trial in New York, during which he was found guilty of falsifying documents in the case of actress Stormy Daniels.
