AJ Auxerre – Gideon Mensah: “From the start, I knew it was going to be a good season”

Relegated to League 2 with Bordeaux then with Auxerre in the space of a year, Gideon Mensah was finally able to smile again this season with a well-deserved climb and championship title! The AJA defender, an important member of his team, participated in the 26 matches for which he was available, in a course marked by absences at the CAN, suspensions and injuries which could have handicapped him at times. Before some very important meetings for the Black Stars of Ghana (against Mali and the Central African Republic), the left back gave an interview on the YouTube channel of his federation, speaking briefly about his completed season with Burgundy.

“It was a very long season for me, for Elisha (Owusu) but also for the whole team. Playing in Ligue 2 and not Ligue 1 for the first time in my career was a difficult task, but from the start of the season I knew it was going to be a good season for us. There were moments that didn’t go as planned but in the end we recovered well and the season ended well. »

“The biggest difficulty in Ligue 2 is undoubtedly the few spaces we have during matches. In Ligue 1, you play against more technical players, the game is calmer than in Ligue 2 where you play for promotion. To compare Ligue 2 to Ligue 1, the “hunger” of the players is not the same! »
