New analysis results are expected in the next 48 hours to confirm the absence of bacteria after restarting the chlorination system.
A prefectural decree published this Monday, November 25, prohibits the consumption of tap water on the Embrun network, indicate the water authority and the mayor of the town in a press release. This ban follows the presence of bacteria which developed after the breakdown of the chlorination system on the network.
A water sample taken on November 20 revealed the absence of chlorine in the network, indicating a breakdown of the chlorination system. The latter was able to be restarted within an hour following this observation, but analyzes carried out on Friday revealed the presence of “Escherichia coli and enterococci germs in water intended for human consumption”.
New results expected
The network in question supplies the Borels, Allemends, Château-Caleyères and Chalvet districts.
New samples taken this Monday confirm that chlorine is indeed back on the water network, but new results confirming the absence of bacteria are expected in the next 48 hours.
In the meantime, the city is asking residents not to use tap water for their food, or even for brushing their teeth.
A distribution of bottled water is planned for residents of the areas concerned this Tuesday. It will take place from 8 a.m. at the Embrunais water board, in the Entraigues district.
