This is a miracle and can give hope to loved ones of missing people. On Monday, a police drone found a 32-year-old woman alive in the Silberwald region of Bavaria. She had been missing since midnight on Sunday, while the torrential rains which have fallen on southern Germany since Friday have already caused the death of at least five people.

For nearly 62 hours, she escaped the waves by remaining on the top of an uprooted tree, according to a press release from the Bavarian police. A rescue drone managed to locate her. Below her, the water was still chest high when she was rescued. She could no longer be reached on her mobile phone, probably because of a dead battery, according to the daily Bild. A relative reported his disappearance to the police.

“A glimmer of hope for us police officers”

Emergency services rescued her using a helicopter. “Visibly weak and dehydrated, she was transported to hospital for further evaluation, but according to initial examinations, she is physically unharmed,” the press release continued, while 60,000 rescuers were mobilized in Bavaria.

Several people are still missing, raising fears of a possible worsening of the human toll. “In view of the many bad news in recent days, this story is also a glimmer of hope for us, police officers. That’s why we made it public,” Holger Stabik, Bavarian police spokesperson, told Bild.
