HASDuring the 2023 financial year, 200.6 million hours of temporary work were recorded, announces the non-profit association Prevention and Interim (PI), created at the request of social partners. That is the equivalent of 102,856 full-time workers. This represents a decrease in the volume of activity of 9% compared to 2022, shared between manual (60%) and intellectual (40%) functions. The past year was also marked by a record in the temporary employment sector. The number of work accidents over the twelve months was the lowest recorded: 7,159 work accidents involving temporary workers and resulting in incapacity for work for at least one day, compared to 8,327 the previous year.

This represented a total of 143,180 days of incapacity for work, compared to 192,624 in 2022. In 92% of cases, these were manual workers. “Work accidents leading to permanent incapacity for work are fewer,” notes Prévention et Intérim. “The circumstantial reports analyzed by PI after a serious accident show that accidents are often the result of poor “reception” of temporary workers. Reception is a compulsory legal procedure which allows any new worker (permanent or temporary) in Belgium to receive the information necessary to work safely at their workplace and avoid health problems. » It is therefore important that the information provided to the worker is in a language that he understands.
