Kia drops the price of its compact electric car by €10,000, but you’ll have to be quick

The Korean manufacturer Kia is setting up a great commercial operation on its Niro EV. The price of the electric car will indeed drop by 10,000 euros until the end of June, and without conditions. One way to get around the removal of the ecological bonus for Asian cars.

It’s a fact, the price war still rages on the electric car market. And this should continue even more intensely over the coming months, as predicted by the Chinese giant BYD.

A very generous discount

In fact, the latter had been started with Tesla, which had reduced the price of its Model 3 and Model Y by 13,000 euros in January 2023, and which continued this fall over the months. The firm had been followed by numerous rivals, including VinFast, Lucid and Xpeng to name a few. But that’s not all, because other brands already well established with us have also decided to try their luck in order to attract more customers. And this while the latter are still often held back by prices.

We think of Kia, which has been increasing reduction operations since the end of last year. And this on a particular model, namely the Niro EV. The latter was entitled to a nice reduction of 5,000 euros last December, in order to compensate the disappearance of the ecological bonus. The electric SUV is no longer allowed in France, due to its production considered too polluting. But that’s not all, because it was also able to benefit from another, even more generous drop in April.

This time, the discount reached 8,000 euros, again in order to attract the most undecided customers. But the Korean manufacturer, which recently unveiled its EV3, has decided to go even further. Therefore on his website, the latter displays a brand new, even more generous promotional offer. And for good reason, this time the latter reaches the 10,000 euros discount. Enough to undoubtedly make Tesla see red, since its Niro EV hunts directly in the territory of the Model Y.

The Asian SUV starts at just 35,690 euros in its entry-level version, compared to 44,990 euros for its American competitor. Be careful, because this is still eligible for government aid, and is therefore displayed at 40,990 euros once the latter has been deducted. But then, what rights do we have on the stored Kia Niro? Well to tell the truth, the allocation is intended to be rather generous on the basic finish called Motionwhich is equipped with numerous on-board technologies.

An attractive offer

And for good reason, for less than 40,000 euros, the Korean SUV is equipped with reversing camera, adaptive cruise control or the autonomous emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Additionally, it also comes standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as navigation and connected services. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning is also included, as are 17-inch alloy wheels and fabric upholstery.

In short, suffice to say that customers should get value for their money on this discounted version. For the record, the latter displays a power of 204 horsepower while it has a battery displaying a capacity of 64.8 kWh. Enough to allow the car to travel up to 460 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, while recharging takes place from 10 to 80% in 43 minutes.

Because unlike the EV6, the Niro EV does not have an 800 volt architecture which allows faster charging. Here, the SUV is content to take a power of 72.8 kW in direct current.

In alternating current, the car comes standard with an 11 kW on-board charger. The vehicle is available for long-term rental, with an offer displayed from 297 euros per month. You will first have to pay an initial rent of 5,000 euros, while the contract extends over 37 months and 30,000 kilometers. The discount of 10,000 euros is also valid and already taken into account in the price displayed on the manufacturer’s website. This promotion is only valid until the end of June.
