Donald Trump regularly speaks at pre-election events in the United States. It is in this context that the former president has already spoken about the context of the war in Ukraine. According to him, this conflict could be resolved easily, he even went so far as to say that, if elected, he would resolve it in one day. The question of how he would go about it, however, remains unclear, leaving Ukrainians with questions about the form. Donald Trump’s advisers reportedly told him to bequeath eastern Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula to Russia. It could also reduce, or even eliminate, financial aid and the delivery of weapons to Ukrainian soldiers. Such a decision would obviously have serious consequences for Ukraine.
Questioned by the GuardianVolodymyr Zelensky spoke about what he describes as a “bad peace agreement”: “A ceasefire is a trap. Putin would only go further, humiliate Trump and make him look weak in the eyes of the rest of the world”.
According to Zelensky, if Trump implemented a “bad peace deal,” it would cause the United States to lose its international influence: “And if Washington is no longer an international player, other leaders – most of them authoritarian – will enter the arena and emulate Putin’s aggressive approach. This would lead to a real World War III..”
The Ukrainian president says, however, that he has not yet thought about possible strategies in the event of Trump’s re-election.
