New palace revolution in Anderlecht with the ouster of Jesper Fredberg and the arrival of Olivier Renard. Like many, Marc Degryse noted the rediscovered influence of Wouter Vandenhaute.
Jesper Fredberg was no longer behind important decisions in recent months. “To begin with, Wouter Vandenhaute reduced Fredberg's power by removing his coach Brian Riemer, but we also saw that when David Hubert arrived, Fredberg no longer had a direct relationship with the coach. Literally: there was no longer any radio connection with the bench,” noted Marc Degryse for Het Laatste Nieuws.
Vandenhaute indicated that he wanted to change the structure of the club and Fredberg also felt that he no longer had his place as sporting director: “He certainly must have felt that he was being pushed aside a bit. And I I believe that his departure was by mutual agreement. Fredberg saw the storm coming.
No room for error in January
With Olivier Renard, Anderlecht immediately ensured the transition. Even if the former goalkeeper will have fewer tasks and responsibilities: “I find it good that Vandenhaute immediately found an alternative with Olivier Renard. He doesn't let Anderlecht sink into the void.”
“Anyone who can keep his club in the American MLS for five years necessarily has skills. Renard will have to rectify in January what is wrong today; he will have to arrive with reinforcements. The choice of Renard still involves a risk” continues Degryse.
His name was mentioned by Dejan Veljkovic in the “Clean Hands” operation, enough to push Sporting to include a clause in the event of indictment. “His alleged role in Mains Propre – I don't want to comment on that – and his past at Standard mean that he is not starting from a blank slate in the eyes of the supporters. Renard will not be able to silence all this until “with a good transfer window in January” concludes Marc Degryse. The work is therefore already substantial.
