The Galaxy S25 Ultra would be much faster than the S24 thanks to this new technology

As artificial intelligence capabilities on devices continue to evolve, the demands placed on mobile hardware are increasing. To follow this trend, Samsung reportedly intends to equip its next Galaxy S25 Ultra model with an even more advanced storage system.

Good news for Samsung fans. According to Sawyer Galox on X, who shared supporting evidence, The Galaxy S25 Ultra would be the first smartphone to use UFS 4.1 storagean improvement over the UFS 4.0 standard found in the current Galaxy S24 series.

The integration of UFS 4.1 storage should provide significant performance improvements, especially when it comes to efficiently handling resource-intensive AI tasks. However, it is not yet clear whether the more affordable models in the Galaxy S25 range will also benefit from this upgrade or whether they will retain previous generation storage technology.

What do we know about UFS 4.1 storage?

One of the main benefits of UFS 4.1 would be performance optimization for AI-related operations. As on-device AI functions become more commonplace, faster storage will be crucial for seamless and efficient execution of these capabilities. With Samsung recently focusing on integrating its Galaxy AI platform with Google’s second generation Gemini Nano, the need for high-performance storage is becoming even more evident.

Unfortunately, specific details regarding the speed differences between UFS 4.1 and UFS 4.0 are still scarce. If UFS 4.0 currently makes it possible to reach 4 Gb/s according to the image revealed by Sawyer Galox, the new standard would be twice as fast, reaching 8 GB/s. We would then have to wait until 2027 before seeing the true successor of these two standards, UFS 5.0.

With on-device AI functions playing a vital role in consumer engagement and sales, Samsung has every incentive to increase its efforts in this area. By equipping the Galaxy S25 Ultra with UFS 4.1 storage, the company could deliver a significantly improved user experience, potentially superior to competitors such as Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Maxwhich is rumored to continue using an NVMe storage system.
