He was nicknamed “the monster of Vancouver”. At the beginning of May, Robert Pickton was the victim of a violent attack by another inmate at the high-security prison in which he was imprisoned, in Quebec, Canada. He was incarcerated in an isolated intervention unit when he was attacked by a comrade, armed with a broken broomstick, which he used as a spear, during a “major attack”.

Robert Pickton was 74 years old

Robert Pickton was injured in the head and then placed in an induced coma in a hospital. He ended up passing away. He was 74 years old. The information was given at the end of May by the authorities. The North American media quickly picked up the news, which had been announced to Robert Pickton’s loved ones and the victims’ families.

The correctional service said an investigation into the fatal attack had been opened. Before adding: “We are aware that this offender’s case has had a devastating impact on communities in British Columbia and across the country, including Indigenous peoples, victims and their families. Our thoughts are with them.”.

Around thirty victims?

The families of the victims reacted. “We can never forget, but we can move on to better things knowing that evil is outside our Earth”, said one of them. Then she continued: “I know today is a peaceful day for her and for all women”. Robert Pickton was a serial killer. One of the worst in North American history. In 2007, he had been convicted of the murders of six women.

However, he could have killed around thirty women, knowing that the DNA of 33 women was found at his home at the time, on his pig farm in Port Coquitlam. For his part, one of Canada’s worst known criminals had confessed having killed 49 women before making them disappear in an atrocious way, in pig manure or in mincers. He was arrested in 2002.
