GUEST EXPERT. Donald Trump was found guilty tonight in the first criminal trial of a former United States president in the country’s history, a verdict that could reshape the political landscape five months before Election Day.

After two days of deliberations, a jury of 12 New Yorkers found Donald Trump guilty of all 34 counts against him for falsifying business documents to conceal the payment of a hush sum of money to a celebrity. porn.

The former president still faces three other criminal trials, two of which accuse him of trying to overturn the 2020 election, and another concerning his handling of classified documents relating to national security. But the New York case will likely be the only trial Donald Trump will face before the November election.

The question now arises as to how voters will react to such a conviction.

A new national poll is the latest to indicate that whether former President Trump is convicted or acquitted in his criminal trial, the verdict will not have much impact on voter perceptions in his 2024 election rematch with President Biden.

Two-thirds of nationally registered voters surveyed in an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist national poll said a guilty verdict in the trial would not change their vote in the presidential election. Seventeen percent said a conviction of Trump would make them less likely to vote for him and 15% said they would be more likely to support the former president at the polls.

If Trump is acquitted, three-quarters of those surveyed said it would not impact their vote. Fourteen percent said a not guilty verdict would make them more likely to support Trump, and 9% said they would be less likely to vote for the former president.
