One person died and at least 290 had to be rescued near Roswell, New Mexico after flash flooding overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
The New Mexico National Guard confirmed in a Facebook post Sunday that after these hundreds of rescues, 38 people were taken to the hospital.
“Several motorists became stranded when their vehicles got stuck in water on flooded streets. Some people had to wait to be rescued on the roof of their submerged car. Vehicles were swept away by water into the river,” the City of Roswell said in a Facebook post.
The National Weather Service declared a flash flood warning for the city of Roswell, New Mexico, and surrounding areas overnight, according to CNN.
A flood warning was still in effect early Sunday evening.
The city of Roswell received record amounts of rain on Saturday.

The police department in Hagerman, a small town south of Roswell, released videos of the flooding showing cars stuck in the water and debris being carried by the water.
Sector authorities are calling on residents to avoid traveling on the streets.
Rescue operations which began during the night continued throughout the day on Sunday.
