Margarine
Ideal for replacing butter on your toast. Margarines, unlike butter, are not made from milk but from vegetable oils (rapeseed, palm, copra, sunflower, etc.). Be careful, however, in case of lactose intolerance or a vegan diet, most of those sold commercially still contain skimmed milk or buttermilk powder and are not 100% plant-based! They are generally less rich in lipids than butter. Some are also enriched with vitamins (E, A or D) but the intake for a portion remains tiny (barely 10% of the recommended daily intake or RDA).
Oils
Refined olive, peanut, sunflower or coconut oils are a perfect replacement for butter in cooking since they resist heat well. Remember that if oils exceed a certain temperature (smoke point), they produce toxic substances. The oils mentioned above are those which withstand the highest temperatures, provided that you carefully check that they are “refined”.
Almond or hazelnut puree
Any foods rich in fat can easily replace butter. If you don’t want to buy ready-made oil, you can experiment by crushing almonds, hazelnuts or cashews to make a puree to put in desserts or to add flavor to your meal and toast. . There is also ready-made almond butter that you just have to use.
Cheese
Dairy products like cheese or yogurt can replace butter. Why not try it in your next dessert recipes or instead of butter on your sandwiches?
Apple or banana sauce
They can be used instead of butter in cakes. Don’t forget to reduce the amount of sugar since these compotes are already naturally sweet!
Bonus: eggs
There are recipes for cakes without butter on the internet. Usually it contains more eggs since eggs, in some cases, can help us replace butter.
