A young child was seriously injured during a head-on collision between two vehicles Wednesday morning in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, on the North Shore of Montreal.

The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. on the 5e Avenue, near Rang Sainte-Claire.

According to the authorities, one of the two vehicles involved deviated from its lane to hit the one coming in the opposite direction.

Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. However, a young child who was traveling in one of the vehicles suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal.

He is said to be in serious condition.

A portion of the 5e Avenue was completely closed to traffic to allow collision investigators to establish the cause and circumstances of the accident.

The investigation is being conducted by the Terrebonne/Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines/-des-Filion Intermunicipal Police Department.
