Free museums in Valencia for International Museum Day 2023

From May 18 to 21, the museums and cultural centers of Valencia participate in International Museum Day 2023, three days during which they offer an unprecedented program. Activities, concerts, theatre… The opportunity to discover or rediscover the cultural offer in Valencia. Here is the non-exhaustive program of these three days of celebration of culture in Valencia.

Center del Carme Cultura Contemporània

The CCCC is celebrating for this 2023 edition of the JIM: performative visits, screenings, musical performances… All the elements come together to celebrate culture in Valencia. This weekend, the CCCC also organizes performative visits “Instrucciones para hacer la croqueta”, a way of deconstructing our way of learning by exploring the field of possibilities. He invites us to various musical performances, in particular “Escucha! Valencia”, by Christian Kensen. A projection of “Supreme”, a French film, is offered for schoolchildren. The museum will also host a sensory experience, an opportunity to explore your senses and push their limits.

IVAM Valencian Institute of Modern Art

Ephemeral garden, guided tours, youth activities… For this 2023 edition, the IVAM has concocted a program for young and old. From May 18 to 21, the museum offers guided night tours, photography workshops and educational activities around the ephemeral garden for children. All these activities will be led by the IVAM mediation team, with several sessions (in Valencian and Castilian) for everyone to enjoy.

National Ceramics Museum

For International Museum Day 2023, the National Ceramics Museum offers you a special program, focused on the discovery of Valencian crafts. For the occasion, it organizes, in partnership with the Conservatory of Valencia, music recitals in the different rooms of the museum. For middle school and high school students, the museum will host the “Objective: museum!” workshop. : a discovery of the underside of artistic restoration. To end the weekend in style, the museum is organizing a night on Saturday May 20, with theatrical visits and free admission for all.

Museum of Fine Arts

To celebrate art and culture, the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia opens its backstage doors. From Thursday to Sunday, it takes you into its precious reserve of works of art for a unique visit. For painting lovers, he organizes a collaborative painting workshop, with work around the painter Sorolla. Thursday afternoon, the museum is transformed and hosts an acoustic concert by Alex Blat, in collaboration with the Festival Deleste. These 3 days of celebration will also be punctuated by conferences and round tables on the themes of culture and sustainability. A program that promises very beautiful moments of meeting and sharing!

CaixaForum

The CaixaForum in Valencia welcomes you to its “Nube IA” interactive experience and offers you a reflection on the progress and dangers of artificial intelligence, which is increasingly present in our daily lives. You can also enjoy free access to the other two exhibitions, Apollo and Tattoo. To properly celebrate this day, Antía Couto and Alexey León will perform in the plaza de Agora the greatest hits of Ernesto Lecuona, the famous Cuban composer. “El color de Cuba”, a piano and saxophone concert that promises to be unique.

Bancaja Foundation

For International Museum Day, the Bancaja Foundation opens its doors and invites us to discover Belgian art through its exhibition “Belgian Art, from Impressionism to Magritte”. A real journey through time, discovering the great Belgian artists. Please note that the visit to the permanent and temporary exhibitions is free all day on Thursday 18 May.

Bombas People

The Bombas Gens art center invites us on Thursday, May 18 for a special and free guided tour of its new exhibition “Honeymoon: Unclassified” by artist Miralda. This one-hour visit is offered in Valencian, Spanish and also in English. You can take the opportunity to visit the two other exhibitions in the centre, that of Carlos Bunga and “Earth: a retrospective”.
