‘I really didn’t agree’, Grealish still angry at Southgate over Euro 2024

Not selected with England for Euro 2024 by former Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate, Jack Grealish returned to this decision which he has not yet digested.

England’s Jack Grealish disagreed with his former manager Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave him out of the Euro 2024 squad, but the winger said he was grateful to caretaker manager Lee Carsley for having confidence in him.

Grealish, 29, is one of the prestigious names who were not called up in Germany, where England lost in the final to Spain (2-1). Other notable absentees were Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison and Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

“I thank coach Lee Carsley”

Grealish, who has played 38 times for England, scored three goals in 20 appearances for Manchester City in the Premier League last season. “I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t really agree”Grealish told the BBC Radio 5 Live mardi. “You need a certain balance in all positions on the pitch and I consider myself an experienced player now”.

“I’ve won a lot of things now, so if you ask me if I should have left, yes, I still think I should have, but I didn’t.”. Grealish was recalled when Carsley, appointed caretaker manager following Southgate’s resignation following the European Championship, called him up to his first team in August. “I thank coach Lee Carsley for giving me this chance and for having faith in me”Grealish said.
