Kortrijk

Today we choose the politicians who will govern Kortrijk for the next six years. As soon as the results are known, you can find the first analysis here with reactions from the winners and losers later in the day. We will briefly explain how the cards are placed.

This article will be continuously updated on election day.

The situation before 13/10 in Kortrijk

Mayor: Vincent van Quickenborne (Team Mayor)

Majority

Team Mayor: 31.3 percent (15 seats)

Forward: 14.4 percent (6 seats)

N-VA: 11.2 percent (4 seats)

Opposition

CD&V: 16.8 percent (7 seats)

Vlaams Belang: 12 percent (5 seats)

Green: 9.9 percent (4 seats)

Participating parties on 13/10: Common Sense, Green, N-VA, PVDA, Team Mayor City List Kortrijk, Vlaams Belang, Vooruit

In 2018, De Kortrijkzaan was quite satisfied with the policy of Team Mayor, N-VA and Vooruit. The coalition continued. Groen, CD&V and Vlaams Belang ended up in the opposition. Team Mayor got 15 seats, N-VA 4 and Vooruit 6. In the opposition, CD&V got 7 seats and Groen 4. Vlaams Belang had 5.

Team Mayor has now brought in CD&V and is going to the elections as Team Mayor Stadslijst Kortrijk. N-VA and Vooruit are going to the elections on their own. The opposition parties Groen and Vlaams Belang also do this. Current mayor Vincent Van Quickenborne (Team Mayor), the most striking candidate, is not a candidate mayor, a striking fact.

If Team Mayor Kortrijk City List gets 22 seats (15 plus 7), then it is set. But more than likely a second party will be needed. That could be N-VA or Vooruit, but they also hope for more seats. Perhaps no one will want to collaborate with Vlaams Belang, although that party might be able to achieve a majority if it merged with N-VA. Groen, N-VA and Vooruit could also consider merging. The PVDA also hopes for a seat in the Kortrijk municipal council. So the places are becoming expensive.

This article will be supplemented with analyzes and responses as soon as possible on election day, October 13, 2024.
