Olympic champion, five times world champion, Perrine Laffont always thirsts for victories and performance. After taking a step back throughout this 2024 season, the Ariégeoise, queen of mogul skiing, has just announced her return to competition. She confided in a message posted on social networks, highlighting a photo of her as a child. “A little girl who still has this flame in her“.

How do you motivate yourself when you’ve already won everything? Perrine Laffont has often faced this question. The champion had gotten into the habit of responding with “the thirst for victories and performance. The thirst to break records, to do things that have never been done.“But today, after a year’s break, the queen of mogul skiing says she wants to continue.”for this little girl who has loved skiing for over 20 years.”

A little girl photographed in her ski suit, gray hat on her head, cheeks that we imagine reddened by the cold, displaying a wide, devastating smile. “I come back for this little girl who still has this flame within her, who dreamed big, who still dreams big and who wants to continue to push her limits. I’m coming back for this little girl who still wants to have fun in the moguls, to have fun and quite simply to ski with the heart“, writes Perrine Laffont on her Instagram page.

Skiing is my greatest love so yes, I’m coming back.

The 25-year-old Pyrenees is therefore ready to put her skis on again, after being sidelined for many months.

Referring to a daily life that had been “running at 100 miles an hour” for around ten years, Perrine Laffont said she needed to take a break. “I worked very hard, it paid off so, I continued. I continued without really thinking or even appreciate“, confides the champion again. Until, her “brain says stop“.

Perrine Laffont needs to take a breather. To breathe. To simply live. So, she distanced herself and put her sporting career on hold. The young woman recharges her batteries at home, in the Pyrenees. She stays in shape on skis, with weight training sessions or even by playing tennis. She carries the Olympic flame in Font-Romeu. Then, we find her in summer camp in Tignes and finishing her preparation in Ushuaïa, in Patagonia.

This is where we re-attack full runs, where we see physical and mental fitness too. It went very well. We said to ourselves that all the lights were green to attack again this winter“, explained Perrine Laffont during an interview with AFP, this October 9, 2024.

The champion will return to competition on November 30, at the opening of the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Ruka, Finland. “The big point of the season will be the World Championships in March. I really want to get there in good shape. We’re going to have to build up to a crescendo.”she said. And then, in Perrine Laffont’s sights, there are already the 2026 Olympics, then those of 2030 in the French Alps.
