Pierre Vernier, emblematic figure of French theater and cinema, has died at the age of 93. Born Pierre Rayer on May 25, 1931 in Saint-Jean-d’Angély, he was one of the last members of the 1954 class of the Conservatory of Dramatic Art, alongside Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean and Françoise Fabian. Known for her elegant silhouette, her career began in the cinema with Jean Gabin in Rue des prairies (1959), before becoming known thanks to collaborations with Claude Chabrol in films like Les Godelureaux and Landru.

Vernier rose to fame playing the title role in the television soap opera Rocambole (1964–1965), where he demonstrated his talents in martial arts and horse riding. His camaraderie with Belmondo marked his career, appearing together in several films and plays, such as Kean and Cyrano de . In cinema, he also starred in classics like Is Burning?, The Professional, and Itinerary of a Spoiled Child.

Beyond his acting career, Pierre Vernier was president of the Association of Visitors to Patients in Hospitals in Gers, where he retired. He remained active until his last days, appearing in recent projects, notably under the direction of François Ozon and Valérie Lemercier. Recognized for his artistic contributions, he was made an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters and a Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2016. Pierre Vernier leaves behind a rich legacy in the French cultural landscape.
