A high school in was targeted Thursday morning by mortar fire, the prefecture said, a week after violence against another establishment in the city. On X, the Minister for Academic Success and Vocational Education Alexandre Portier indicates that a teacher was injured.

Before the start of classes at 8 a.m., pyrotechnic objects targeted the Auguste and Louis Lumière high school in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon, in front of which around ten people had gathered. Trash cans were also set on fire, she told AFP. The police dispersed the group, without there being any arrests, added the prefecture.

According to the regional daily Le Progrès, tram traffic near the high school was cut off, but classes were able to take place normally, the high school told AFP.

A week ago, several dozen people attacked the Sembat-Seguin school complex in Vénissieux, in the eastern suburbs of Lyon, whose entrance had been damaged by mortar fire and outbreaks of fire. Stones were also thrown at staff, according to the unions.

Arrested after the events, two young people aged 16 and 17, students of the targeted high school, were indicted in particular for “destruction of property by dangerous means”. One of them was placed in pre-trial detention and the other under judicial supervision, according to the prosecution.
