Perrine Laffont is ready to return to the slopes. After a break of almost a year, the 25-year-old skier from Ariège announces that she will resume competition for the coming season. “I can officially say that I am coming back for next winter, that I will attack again in December”she told AFP this Wednesday October 9, 2024, confirming her participation in the World Cup in Ruka, Finland, scheduled for November 30.

A season of break for Perrine Laffont

The skier announced on November 15, 2023 her decision to “do a break of a few months with competition. A well-deserved rest, which ultimately lasted almost a year, and during which she took the opportunity to “refine her preparation by implementing significant in-depth athletic and mental work”.

It should be remembered that the 2022-2023 season was exceptional for Perrine Laffont, with a double at the world championships in Bakurianiin Georgia, winning gold in both singles and parallel events. Successes in contrast to the disappointment of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2022, where she finished in fourth place.

The World Championships in Switzerland in March 2025 as a goal

The decision to resume competition “was quite late”recognizes Perrine Laffont. “With my trainer, my physical trainer, we said to ourselves: ‘We’re not putting pressure on ourselves to come back and be ready in December. You come back with the group, you do the weeks of preparation and we see how the body copes.” »

In reality, the five-time world champion is planning a gradual rise in power and is mainly aiming for the Worlds in Switzerland in March 2025. Very realistic, she declares: “I’m coming back from a year’s break. You never know how the body and mind will react. »
