The National Agency for Statistics and Demography (Ands) has made public its statistical benchmarks for the month of July 2024. The document consulted by PressAfrik discusses the economic activity of several sectors including the main mining production, the gross production of electricity, the industrial sector, air traffic, maritime traffic at the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD), turnover (CA) of the service and trade sectors among others.
Improvement in the maritime activity of the Autonomous Port of Dakar by 15.4%
According to the Ansd, “the maritime activity of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, in July 2024, improved by 15.4% compared to the previous month in connection with the good dynamic of landings (+25.6%) despite the decline in embarkations (-0.7%) over the period The situation of landings is explained by those of seafood products (+89.1%), general merchandise (+59.7%) and goods. refined hydrocarbons (+31.0%)”.
Regarding embarkations, the document states, “the contraction is linked to the decline in those of seafood products (-33.5%). Compared to a year previously, PAD maritime traffic fell by 13.7% in month under review”.
Concerning mining production, Ands informs that: “In July 2024, mining activity, monitored by formal companies, is marked by the decline in production in value of attapulgite (-45.4%), gold (-15.5%), zircon (-14.2%) and iodized salt (-12.7%) compared to the previous month, year-on-year production of zircon (+). 43.3%) and gold (+9.6%) are increasing. On the other hand, those of attapulgite (-53.9%) and iodized salt (-4.1%) are decreasing.
On average, underlines the document, “over the first seven months of 2024, the production value of attapulgite (-14.7%), iodized salt (-13.2%) and gold (-5 .1%) fell compared to a year earlier. However, for zircon, an increase of 70.6% was noted.
Regarding SENELEC’s total electricity production, the report states that it “increased by 6.8% in the month under review, compared to June 2024. This increase is explained by the simultaneous progression of the company’s own production (+11.2%) and its purchases from other producers (+5.6%) Compared to a year previously, SENELEC’s total electricity production increased by 14.9%. % in the month under review.
An increase was also noted in industrial production. It is “5.5% year-on-year. This situation is explained by the increase in the production of extractive products (+9.4%), environmental products (+7.1%), electricity, gas and water (+6.3%) as well as manufacturing products (+4.3%).
