The United States has expressed its strong opposition to any Israeli military action in Lebanon that could resemble the operation in Gaza. This warning comes following recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting a possible offensive in Lebanon.
Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, clearly stated Washington’s position: “Military action in Lebanon similar to that in Gaza would be unacceptable.” This statement highlights the United States’ growing concern over a potential escalation of conflict in the region. At the same time, the US administration has expressed concerns about the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza. Miller called the concerns “incredible” and revealed that “urgent” discussions were underway with Israel on the matter.
The spokesperson also addressed the sensitive issue of Palestinian civilians, saying: “The killing of fleeing Palestinian civilians by Israeli forces would be unacceptable.” He called on the Israeli government to fully investigate such incidents, should they occur. These statements come against a backdrop of increased tensions, as evidenced by recent protests near the White House against Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
