LAS VEGAS – Adios Las Vegas. The Tropicana hotel and casino, located in Las Vegas, Nevada, was destroyed on the night of October 8-9. Its implosion took place during a spectacular show, under the eyes of a crowd who came to witness the destruction of this mythical place, symbol of the city’s golden age.

As you can see in our video at the top of the articlethe Tropicana explosion lasted approximately 22 seconds and took place around 2:30 a.m. This was accompanied by fireworks and a drone show. “1957-2024” and “Tropicana” could be read hugely in the Vegas sky. The event also caused traffic problems due to falling dust.

A baseball stadium planned for its location

After sixty-seven years of existence, the Tropicana closed its doors last April, having failed to stand out from the competition. Its ruins will make way for the construction of a future baseball stadium with a capacity of 33,000 people and intended to accommodate the Oakland Athletics team.

Opened on the Strip in 1957, the Tropicana was one of the last representatives of the city’s golden age, a period between the 50s and 70s. It was frequented by many celebrities but especially by a large number of members of the mafia, including Frank Costello, New York mafioso who inspired the character of Vito Corleone in The Godfather.

Most recently in October 2017, the casino served as a refuge for people fleeing the terrible shooting that took place during an outdoor concert near the venue. This mass killing, the largest in the history of the United States, left 58 dead and more than a hundred injured.

This is not the first time that a Las Vegas casino has been destroyed in such an explosion, and it will certainly not be the last. This was already the case for the Sands, destroyed in 1996, the Aladdin in 1998 and the Stardust in 2007.
