This is one of the films that caused a sensation at the start of autumn in , and including in Lyon.

Terrifier 3, released in theaters this Wednesday October 9, 2024, was prohibited for under 18sa first since 2006. In the capital of Gaul, Damien Leone’s feature film is also broadcast, and is a real success.

Some even try to defraud, including families.

A first since 2006

In Terrifier 3, spectators can follow the adventures of a clown, played by David Howard Thornton, who will make murders more horrible each other. The American horror film is the sequel to 2, released in 2022, while the saga began in 2017.

But Terrifier 3, unlike the first opuses prohibited for those under 16, is this time reserved for audiences aged over 18. Unheard of since 2006 and the release of Saw 3.

In question, the classification commission linked to the National Cinema Center which evokes a film “violent and gory which has the particularity of multiply the sadistic scenes of extreme violence with the desire to associate the viewer with a form of glorification of violence presented in a favorable light likely to seriously disturb the public’s sensitivity while nevertheless having a narrative with a gory aesthetic.

“Success is here”

Despite this, the stores in which it is possible to see Terrifier 3, the theaters are always full, especially in Lyon.

“Success is there. At first, we only showed the film at Carré de Soie. But there is such success that we have added sessions in Vaise”, details Alexis Guillaume, the director of the Pathé Carré de Soie, Vaise and Bellecour cinemas, who did not watch the feature film classified in the category of slashers movies“very visual” with regular bloodshed or scenes of abominable torture.

At Carré de Soie, sessions at 11 p.m. this Friday and Saturday evening have also been added.

A success with 80,000 entries in France since the release on Wednesday, including 3,000 tickets sold for the Carré de Soie complex. “It’s a lot,” breathes Alexis Guillaume.

“Parents are trying to get their children in”

And among those who present themselves at the doors of cinemas, “many under 18 years of age” continues the director of the Pathé cinemas in the Lyon area.

To enforce the ban, controls were put in place. The staff will check twice that the spectators are of the required age. Despite everything, free riders try their luck.

“Some people hang around after going to see another movie and try to slip in another room. But we are watching. It’s been around forever,” continues Alexis Guillaume.

Sometimes they are even families who try to deceive the employees: “At Carré de Soie, parents who are aware of the ban want to cheat and try to get their children in.” But here again, proof of age is required.

Once the public was seated, no incident was reported in the Lyon theaters: “In the theater, it doesn’t move“. We do not know, however, if any spectators did not manage to make it to the end of the 125 minutes.

Some cinemas are not showing the film

In other cinemas in Lyon, the horror film will not be shown. And not necessarily because of his horrible character. Example at Comoedia, avenue Berthelot in the 7th arrondissement, where there will be no killer clown alongside the Joker.

We are classified as art house, a qualification supervised by the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images. This type of film does not fit into our category, especially since we currently have a large offering of beautiful arthouse films. This is not a value judgment. We also broadcast Blockbusters, like recently The Count of Monte Cristo.

Deputy Director of Comoedia

Especially since the release of Terrifier 3 comes at the worst time in Lyon, with the start of the Lumière Festival this Saturday, October 12. Many special screenings are planned in theaters until October 20.
