A terrible attack was perpetrated in Bon Encontre, near Agen, on October 4. While a rider was hospitalizedhis horse was fatally stabbed.
The animal would have become frightened
It was at the end of the day, Friday, that the scene took place. According to France 3, Audrey, an experienced 26-year-old rider, rides with Champion. A car comes quickly behind her. Two men come out. The horse would then have become frightenedand reared up three times, according to what the young woman told the police.
The rider hospitalized, the animal brutally killed
Owner of the Gaillardet stables (Lot-et-Garonne), enclosure in which the animal was boarded, Carole Pleumekers explained that “the horse stood up and Audrey fell to the ground. She must have remained unconscious. When she got up, she couldn’t find her horse. There was blood everywhere on the path. She called us, frantic.”
The owner found the animal, “a little further away, on the ground, in the side aisle. He was stabbed to death, gratuitously. It’s barbarism“, she laments. “The location of the blows left him no chance, they (the attackers, Editor’s note) knew what they were doing. Barbarians, cowards…” added Carole Pleumekers in a Facebook post.
“They fought hard”
Our colleagues spoke with the technical and scientific police of Agen, present at the stables on Monday October 7. “Individuals managed to hold the horse and stabbed it seven times at the neckline, the jugular artery was affected. We can actually say that they fought hard” a police officer whispered to them.
Monday, Audrey was still shocked. If the medical examinations she underwent did not reveal any injurythe owner of the stables repeated it when discussing the psychological state of the young victim: “She’s really not well“.
What do we know about the attackers?
Regarding the attackers, who appear to be two in number, the evidence is still thin. But the police have one certainty: these barbaric acts were committed “on a narrow path for the walk where there are few cars“. A couple of residents who witnessed the terrible discovery on Friday evening certified it to France 3: “Only people who know horses well could have committed this act.“.
Several investigations were opened: for acts of cruelty towards an animal causing death, endangering the lives of others, and failure to assist a person in danger.
