This Tuesday, October 8, 2024, around 5:17 p.m., the Valognes (Manche) emergency center was called to a fire at 2, rue des Peupliers. This fire broke out in a garage independent of the house.

The Valognes and Montebourg rescue centers dispatched 17 firefighters as well as a nurse from the Saint-Pierre-Eglise center to the scene.

Lieutenant Yvan Vrac, commander of the Valognes rescue center, led the operations: “An explosion took place, the garage door was blown away. The fire was quickly contained but the owner suffered serious burns. The helicopter Dragon 50 landed at the Simone-Veil hospital so that the victim could be transported urgently to the burn hospital in Nantes. Two witnesses, who inhaled smoke, were transported to the Cotentin public hospital center. They are out of danger. »

A gendarmerie investigation has been opened. This Tuesday evening, the scientific gendarmerie was on site to try to determine the causes of the disaster.
