Fires have started one after the other since yesterday in the south of New Caledonia. The firefighters of Dumbéa and Nouméa are heavily mobilized this Wednesday, October 9. In total, no fewer than four fires are underway.

Dumbéa

Thick smoke is emanating from the Pointe à la Dorade district. A fire was reported this Wednesday, October 9 at 3:15 p.m. rue de la Provence, where the boat launch is located. According to the gendarmerie, some homes were evacuated. One house burned and at least three others are threatened. A water bomber helicopter carried out around thirty drops.

Already yesterday, a large fire broke out early in the afternoon. Although local residents are now out of danger, the fire continues to spread. Firefighters and Civil Security are widely mobilized on site.

Noumea

Two separate fire outbreaks also reported in Nouméa, ten minutes apart. The first was triggered in Vallée-des-Colons towards the Mobilis tower at 1 p.m. The second, near the Sakamoto squat, at 1:10 p.m. It was a vegetation fire according to the Nouméa firefighters.
