This Tuesday, October 8, Nîmes Métropole received the Marianne d’Or prize for its action in favor of sustainable development. This award highlights the Agglo’s investment in the challenges of the future, such as the “Eco-metropolis 2032” territorial project, a real roadmap for a resilient and environmentally friendly future.

With this “Eco-metropolis 2032” roadmap, Nîmes metropolis has set itself the mission of becoming an innovative and productive Eco-metropolis. This territorial project is based on four main orientations: energy transition, carbon-free mobility, environmentally friendly territorial planning and the preservation of natural resources. Franck Proust, president of Nîmes métropole, underlines: “ An eco-metropolis cannot be decreed, it is built. This award pushes us to go even further in our commitments to the environment and ecological transition. »

Among the flagship initiatives, the Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan (PCAET) sets four major ambitions in the service of the ecological transition: “a territory with positive energy”, “low-carbon and balanced economic development”, “a territory adapted and sober for a desirable future” and “an urban area driving the ecological transition”.

Nîmes Métropole is also committed to adapting to climate change through municipal assistance funds, whether for the energy renovation of buildings, but also for the renovation and modernization of the public lighting network. Sustainable management of water resources is also a priority.

Mobility and local economy at the heart of priorities

As part of the decarbonization of transport, Nîmes Métropole is investing in shared and sustainable mobility solutions, such as the acquisition of clean energy vehicles (electric and biogas), the creation of a reinforced and secure cycling network, as well as the creation of multimodal exchange hubs in the territory.

Finally, the Agglo aims to become a “zero waste” territory, with initiatives such as sorting bio-waste at source by offering all households a composter or worm composter, and by promoting reuse.
