A second-grade student at Kindsheid Jesu in Hasselt was preventively suspended on Tuesday. The young man had punched a teacher in the face around noon. The incident was filmed and posted on the internet. “We will also try to find out who did that,” says director Werner Nevels.
On Tuesday around 1 p.m., the LRH police received a report of the incident. The events had already taken place around noon. “The teacher involved went home when he heard that a student was not behaving. He spoke to the young man – whom he did not know – in the trend of ‘stop it’. And then it completely went off the rails and the teacher got the blow,” the director summarizes. The school also indicates that the minor is in a difficult care program.
Unable to work
The teacher herself went to the doctor during the day and was unable to work for several days. “There is a ‘non-aggression policy’ here at school. We therefore take the facts very seriously and have temporarily suspended the boy as a preventive measure. The parents of the other students have now been informed of what happened through the known channels. Where necessary, we will discuss this incident further in class on Wednesday.”
The school has filed a complaint with the police. “A report has now been drawn up. The boy will be invited for an interrogation. But because he is a minor, everything is a little more difficult,” says Dorien Baens, spokesperson for the LRH police.
Movies
At school on Wednesday they will also look for the student who filmed the incident and then spread it on social media. “By only filming part of the story, that person has enormous responsibility for what happens next.
