The theft theory, initially favored after the discovery of the body of Nooreza Abdoolah, 46 years old, was quickly dismissed by the MCIT. It was the victim’s daughter herself, aged 13, who broke down. She admitted that it was her friend Noah (fictitious first name) who coldly killed her mother during a violent argument.
On Thursday, MCIT arrested 15-year-old Noah. The latter had met Nooreza Abdoolah’s daughter, a nurse, via the TikTok application two months ago. After several exchanges, the two teenagers became friends. However, when the girl’s parents realized this, they took action, including confiscating her phone, according to information obtained by police. Unable to contact her anymore, Noah decided to go to the family’s home.
On the day of the tragedy, Wednesday October 2, the teenager informed her boyfriend, via her mother’s phone, that she would be at work during the day. This is how he went to the Abdoolah house, on rue Alma, Vallée-Pitot. However, Nooreza, on leave to take care of her daughter who was soon to take exams, was present and surprised the young man. Nooreza then allegedly threatened to alert the police, which prompted Noah to leave. However, 45 minutes later, determined to see the teenager, he returned to the scene. During this second face-to-face meeting with Nooreza, a violent argument broke out. The situation having deteriorated, the girl took refuge in her room. After Noah left the scene and Nooreza collapsed in the kitchen, the teenager alerted the neighbors. They tried to rescue Nooreza and contacted her relatives. Rushed to hospital, she did not survive. Doctors attributed his death to a broken neck.
Among the Abdoolahs in Vallée-Pitot, the consternation and anger are palpable. Naahirr, the victim’s son, told Défi Media that his mother was categorically opposed to the romantic relationship between the two teenagers. “Garson-la ti fini dir mo mama ki li kontan mo ser. Parski mo mama pa ti aksepte sa, li finn tir so lavi,” he says. His mother was a strict woman in her professional environment, but tender at home. “Priority is my mother’s well-being and her family’s well-being,” he explains.
The teenager provisionally charged in court on Friday
The 15-year-old was brought before the Children’s Court on Friday, October 4. He was provisionally charged with murder before the courts, before being returned to custody. His hearing at the MCIT, in the presence of his lawyer Me Rishi Hurdoyal, and Me Priya Sookur, took place at the end of the past week during which he provided a confession on the murder of his girlfriend’s mother. On October 11, the young resident of the capital will be presented again before the Children’s Court for the purposes of proceedings. His additional explanations regarding this murder will be recorded by the police in the coming days.
The mother of “Noah”: “My boy is happy with his tifi-la”
“Mo garson ti kontan sa tifi-la”. Comments from Anne (fictitious first name), the suspect’s mother, who spoke to the Défimedia Group on Friday. She claims that she has not been able to speak with him since his arrest at school: “Kan mo’nn went out lakaz Thursday, my boy ti ankor pe slept,” she adds.
Still in shock, Anne admits to having difficulty understanding the circumstances which would have pushed her son to commit such an act: “Mo pa koner kinn arive laba”. The latter had confided to her that he loved a girl who lived in Vallée-Pitot, however, she did not know her personally. In addition, she says she does not know if her son used to go to the 13-year-old girl’s house. Speaking of that fateful Wednesday, Anne maintains that he came home, but did not eat dinner that evening.
She also admits that this moment is very painful for the family who have been in shock since Thursday, when the news of Noah’s arrest broke. He was, according to her, very attached to the family who cherished him. Furthermore, he lacked nothing.
