In Chiang Mai, the flood situation has deteriorated again with rising water levels now extending over a larger area, although the level remains slightly below that of the previous flood.

The rapid and violent rise in water levels flooded many communities and commercial areas, causing considerable damage to residents.

This second wave of flooding in a week proved to be as devastating as the first. In the heart of the city, along the famous night bazaar, where there are many shops and large hotels, the streets have been transformed into a canal, with water levels reaching 50 to 70 centimeters.

Despite their preparations, local businesses were surprised by the rapid rise in water levels. Several traders shared their concerns about possible damage to their products due to the flood and the uncertainty over the potential for worsening flooding.

The situation in Chiang Mai remains precarious as flash floods in the northern part of the province could further increase the water level of the Ping River.

In Chiang Mai’s Mae Taeng district, efforts are underway to save around 126 elephants. So far, 117 elephants have been safely relocated, and rescue operations are underway for the remaining nine. Other animals were also transferred to security centers. -819 (TNA)
