AMOPA (association of members of the Order of Academic Palms) organized a friendship day bringing together 46 people from Hautes-Alpes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Hérault, Lozère and Gard who first found themselves in Junas. The welcome was provided by Mrs. Pellet, mayor of the village. It was in the quarries exploited since antiquity that a guide explained to visitors their history, the extraction practices, the conditions of the quarries, and the resulting town planning of the village of Junas.
At 12 p.m., the whole group went to Sommières, to the Estelou hotel, meal provided and prepared by Mr. Idoux and his staff, from the Arhumatk restaurant in Sommières. Festive, gastronomic and above all fraternal atmosphere. At 2:30 p.m., two guides were waiting for the participants who set off to discover Vidourle, the Roman bridge, its lost arches, the districts of the ancient city, the ancient Protestant temple destroyed after the revocation of the Edict from Nantes, from the church, before climbing up to the castle. It was 5 p.m. when it was time to say goodbye.
This Friendship Day is the fruit of several weeks of work. Each participant left with a gift, a box of chocolates marked with the logo of the AMOPA du Gard association.
The president of the association Claude Coyo, the treasurer Jean-Marc Covès, the secretary Didier Bucchi are delighted with the success of this meeting placed under the sign of friendship. Next year, another department will be in charge of organizing this day.
