Europeans: for Rima Hassan, “Israel is worse than Russia” in terms of respect for international law

The candidate of France rebellious to the European elections, Rima Hassan, gave her support on Sunday to the pro-Palestinian mobilizations of certain students, who “simply ask that there be no double standards” in matters of international law, while according to she “Israel is worse than Russia”.

“When Russia invaded Ukraine, there were (…) very important and very rapid declarations and commitments (…) from this academic community, regarding the sanctions to be taken against Russia. The students are simply asking that there be no double standards,” declared the 32-year-old Franco-Palestinian lawyer on BFMTV.

“Are Russia and Israel the same? », he is asked. “Israel is worse than Russia,” she replies. And when the journalist asks her if there was an October 7 between Russia and Ukraine, she continues: “there was worse than October 7 for the Palestinians.”

For the Palestinians, the occupation of the territories has lasted “for around fifty years”, she points out.

Support for mobilized students

“The United Nations resolutions, the United Nations reports regarding Israel’s violations of international law, have been documented for decades. So it’s even worse (…) in terms of liabilities and in terms of violations of international law, (…) and documentation of the crimes that are committed,” she argued.

“What students are rightly asking for is that there be no double standards. That is to say, we took sanctions against a Russian regime which violated international law. We demand sanctions against an Israeli state which violates international law today and which has done so since (…) the Oslo Accords. (…) I encourage them to effectively continue their commitment,” she said.

Sciences-po and other higher education establishments have been the scene for several days of student mobilization in favor of the Palestinian cause.

The Dauphine Palestine Committee had invited Rima Hassan to participate in a conference on the “threat of genocide in Gaza” on Monday. Banned by the management of the establishment, it was finally authorized by administrative justice, according to an order made public on Saturday.
