Josiane Balasko clearly belongs to a great cinema family, whose acting we will still have the opportunity to admire in François Ozon’s latest film, When autumn comeswhich hits theaters this Wednesday. Since his first steps in 1976, alongside the troupe of Splendidthe actress, rewarded with three Césars in her careerwas able to move away from the comic supporting roles in which she had made her debut to excel in more dramatic registers.

The actress is also sister-in-law by Richard Berry. If in recent years, following the accusations of incest brought against him by his daughter Coline, his career as an actor has been obscured by news items, he nonetheless also remains a figure of the French seventh art since the early 70s.

Finally, there is Marilou, the daughter that Josiane Balasko had forty-one years ago. His father, Philippe Berry, Richard’s brother who has since disappeared, was a man far removed from film sets and cameras and who rather gave in painting, sculpture and drawingbut his daughter no longer has to prove herself and has found her place in the world of French cinema.

This clan of artists, whose faces are familiar, nevertheless includes someone much more discreet. Someone whose existence has never been hidden but who has always remained in the shadows, withdrawn from public life. His name is Berry too. And if almost everyone knows his sister Marilou, most people don’t know who he is. His name is Rudy. This is the son that Josiane Balasko and Philippe Berry adopted in 1988.

Josiane Balasko: “Rudy, he has his own life, we’re not going to bother him”

There’s no reason to talk about it. Marilou, we talk about it because she works in the public sector, she is an actress so it’s normal. But Rudy, he has his life, we’re not going to bother him“, replied cash his mother in C to you to Pierre Lescure who, in June 2023, was trying to find out more about this child.

Two months earlier, interviewed in The Papotin Meetingsduring an exchange with people suffering from autistic disorders as part of this program broadcast by 2, she was much more verbose and very educational with her interviewers. “I couldn’t have children, so we went to the DDASS to apply for adoption. It takes a year, there is a long file, because you don’t adopt a child like you adopt a dog. It’s more complicated. You have to be surer”, she confided to her interlocutors.

“I no longer had the energy to baby”

Words which allowed us to better understand the origins of her approach, but it was especially in 2015 on Marc-Olivier Fogiel’s couch that Josiane Balasko took the time to explain this decision to adopt, taken with her former husband. “It turned out that I had tried to have other children (Editor’s note: after the birth of Marilou in 1983) and it didn’t work. Several times with my husband, we said to ourselves that we were going to adopt.” A solution which also made it possible, in the event that she could have become pregnant again, to avoid the difficulties and sleepless nights linked to the birth of a newborn.

As at the time I already had 40 brooms, she pointed out to Marc-Olivier Fogiel, I had no desire to baby, I no longer had the energy to baby, I wasn’t short of babying because I had already nursed my daughter.

And then, one day in 1988, the actress learned thata 3-year-old child from the Antilles is waiting at the DDASS to have new parents. “When I saw the photo of Rudy as a child, it was exactly the same feeling as when I saw my daughter in the clinic when she was born. I knew her. And when I saw Rudy, I knew him. There is something that happens like this“, she mentioned on the host’s couch. As if it were obvious. And this is how Rudy entered the lives of Josiane, Philippe and Marilou. “It’s a child’s love“, concluded the actress.

Rudy lived with his mother for a long time

Rudy is now 39 years old. On a few occasions he showed up with his mother. And he became a very handsome man. In 2013 and 2015, we saw this in particular attend Fashion Week at Jean-Paul Gaultier’s fashion shows. However, he does not work in fashion. After starting out in events, he would today be a sports coach. And he would have lived with his mother for a long time. When the film was released Mamanprecisely, in 2012, Josiane Balasko had released this confidence to Match. “He is still with me at 27 years old and I am very happy about it. It’s easier because we have a big house, we’re not on top of each other. He has a form of independence.

The actress was then still living with Philippe Berry. But on September 5, 2019, the father of Marilou and Rudy was struck down by a heart attack at the age of 63. Since then, Josiane Balasko has found love again in the arms of George Aguilar… and a smile thanks to her family.

Since 2018, she has been the happy grandmother of little Andy, born in 2018 from Marilou’s love affair with Alexis, a street artist known under the pseudonym Diamantaire. Shortly after his birth, Josiane Balasko expressed her newfound joy at having seen this new child arrive in her life. “Grandma is great because it’s new to me (…). We have his photo on the phone and when he is there, we look at him stupidly.“A fulfilled mother, and a gaga granny…
