Aldi cuts sugar prices by 20%

Aldi lowers sugar prices. Granulated sugar, fine granulated sugar and lump sugar will all be 20% cheaper from October 2. “Ultimately, we also expect price reductions for sweet products,” adds the discounter.

Last week, Aldi announced at an international press meeting that other price drops would occur in the future. This announcement comes to fruition immediately, as Aldi announced this morning that it was lowering its prices for sugar. In fact, from October 2, granulated sugar, fine granulated sugar and lump sugar will be 20% cheaper. The price of lump sugar will even fall to the 2022 price level. “At Aldi, we reduce prices whenever we can. Our buyers carefully monitor raw material prices. For sugar, these are developing favorably. It is therefore logical that we pass the price advantage on to our customers as quickly as possible,” explains Natalie Duthoy, managing director procurement at Aldi Belgium. Since the start of the year, the discounter has already lowered the price of more than 500 products. According to Natalie Duthoy, this is due to “the high turnover of our products, a smart purchasing method and our discount model, thanks to which we manage to negotiate a low price for consumers”.

Other sweet products should follow

In addition to the sugar price cuts, Aldi expects the prices of sugary products to eventually decrease. “We expect the fall in the price of sugar to be reflected in the purchase price of other products. Of course, we also take into account the price development of other raw materials, such as cereals, coffee and cocoa. But customers can be assured that we will address the reduction in the price of sugar in our negotiations with suppliers. And here again, as soon as we can, we will reduce the prices of these products,” concludes Ms. Duthoy.
