The five goals from OL – Monaco on Sunday greatly contributed to the 31st record day experienced by Ligue 1 last weekend.

Lyon supporters were amazed on Sunday during the clash between OL and Monaco (3-2). In addition to the success and the meeting, of very good quality, they were able to attend a rather special evening with entertainment in the stands, including a pyrotechnics show. But the spectators present at Décines are not the only ones to have had a superb moment. Indeed, the entire 31st day of Ligue 1 is to be marked with a milestone.

The statistics tell us of a particularly prolific weekend. In total, 40 goals were scored in nine matches, the third highest total after the 38th day of the 2007-2008 season (43) and the 5th day of the 1949-1950 financial year (55). This gives an average of 4.44 goals per game, the best ratio since 1979-1980 (4.5).

Of course, the 4-5 between Rennes and Brest, to the advantage of Pierre’s men Wise moreover, will remain as the poster of Sunday, but the Rhone and Monegasques did not deserve. All the teams contributed to making this 31st day notable, since they all found the net at least once, a first since 1976-1977, i.e. 47 years. Far from the tasteless 0-0s therefore.
