If we often talk to you about BYD on Superchargedit’s because the brand’s news is buzzing. Not a month, or even a week, goes by without something new in its global range, but also around batteries because yes, BYD is also a battery manufacturer.

The Tesla Model Y also has BYD batteries for certain versions, just like the first Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008.

The Chinese brand took advantage of the last Geneva Motor Show to present an updated version of his Tanga large electric SUV that plays in the backyard of the Tesla Model X. The problem is that despite some substantial improvements, he always stays behind the competition.

Do you know the whole story behind your car (future or present)?

becauseVertical knows it. This unique service knows everything about the past of your (future) vehicle: old damage, consultation of theft registers, tampered with odometer… The insurance and technical inspection reports hide nothing!

And given the prices displayed by BYD for its model, there is a good chance that its career will not necessarily take off in France.

A very large battery for ultimately just decent autonomy

The big change is the battery which grows, going from 86.4 kWh to 108,8 kWh capacity – quite a change. Note that it retains the in-house “Blade” technology, LFP type (lithium – iron – phosphate).

The autonomy is affected, going from 400 km to 530 km according to the WLTP standard, which is still not sensational for a battery of this size. Which indicates enormous consumption.

The charging power is also changing, with 170 kW max (compared to 120 kW previously). This allows us to maintain the figure of 30 minutes to go from 30 to 80%or around 40 minutes for the 10 to 80%. Again, a rather long exercise.

The competition does better for not necessarily much more expensive

For comparison, the Tesla Model

As for the Kia EV9, its 563 km WLTP and its ultra-fast charging (10-80% in 24 minutes) thanks to its 800 volt architecture also does much better.

In France, the restyled Tang starts at 72 000 eurosor 1,200 euros more than the base price of the old version. Certainly, it is less than the large electric SUVs, but its Chinese competitor, the XPeng G9, does better for less: from 59,900 euros.
