Faced with declining audiences for its television news, France Télévisions had to review its copy. Thus, since Monday September 9, 2024, Anne-Sophie Lapix has presented an evening news program extended by several minutes to reach a duration of one hour. “This new formula will allow us to focus on subjects that we have chosen to treat them in depth”detailed an Anne-Sophie Lapix packed in the columns of Parisian. Unfortunately, this new format has not yet attracted a wider audience.

Having been at the helm of the big weekend mass on TF1 for 25 years, Claire Chazal knows well the expectations of viewers, as well as the dangers of her job. Questioned by the hosts of Buzz TV on this extension, on Thursday September 26, 2024, the current presenter of Large Chessboard was skeptical of her employer. “Sorry… I am not going to be disloyal to France Télévisions […] and I wish them to succeed, naturally”she first warned, before explaining why this decision was not the right one. “Frankly, I never would have done it! I presented news stories of 35 to 40 minutes on TF1 and we could do longer in the event of an exceptional event. There, I don’t understand how we can build a hierarchy of information over an entire hour every day!”she believes, very transparent.
An audience that is difficult to capture for an hour?
If she has turned the chapter on a large part of her life, not wishing to become a simple replacement, the former queen of newspapers remains certain about what makes such a program successful. “We can’t do a news show with filler or filler topics because it’s obvious straight away. I also think that the viewer’s attention cannot be sustained every day for an hour in front of the 8 p.m. news!”she confided, nevertheless qualifying her remarks by the possibility of being wrong. Claire Chazal has in any case chosen Public Senate to talk about literature.
