This Saturday, April 27, 2024, the first day of the 45th Spring Challenge, organized in Guipavas by the Gars du Reun football for young U10 and U12 players, took place under beautiful sunshine. The organizers do not hide their pleasure at this weather: during the week, the forecasts were far from being as lenient. And they’re not the only ones who are happy with their day! The young players were already very cheerful and determined from the opening of the park, and even before the first matches. In the park, the arbors of the clubs with their companions, often the parents, the first supporters of their children, flourish on the green spaces like rallying points for all.
Waste sorting and water points
In order to be consistent with the club’s educational project on eco-citizen approaches, the organizers paid particular attention to the installation of bins with waste sorting, thanks to the support of the Brest metropolis “Serial Cleaner” service, and of water points, in partnership with Eau du Ponant.
In parallel with this tournament, in the morning, the youngest participants (under 7 years old) met for a small tournament. Everyone is waiting for only one thing: “Grow up to join the “real” tournament”.
Three challenges in each category
During the two days of this challenge, nearly 1,000 young people gave the best of themselves. At the end of the first day, the classification by pool defines the pools for this Sunday, April 28. On the first day, there were eight pools of six teams in each age category. For the second day, the first and second will find themselves in a table called “Challenge of Champions”, the third and fourth in “Challenge of Hopes” and, finally, the fifth and sixth in “Challenge of the Future”.
This Saturday evening, a big evening, open to all, is planned outside, in the Pontanné park. “A fireworks display will be set off at 11 p.m. before the park closes at 11:30 p.m.,” said Stéphane Gouron, head of the Challenge, a few days ago.
Practical
The Spring Challenge continues this Sunday. The matches in each table, on the six fields of the Pontanné sports complex, will start at 9 a.m. The finals will take place at the Éric-Lamour stadium late in the afternoon. Refreshment bar and snacks on site.
