On the RTL set this Monday, Éric Ciotti responded to the announcement by Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who is considering taxing “the wealthiest people” and certain companies.

Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who recently composed his government raised the need for a “collective effort” to control public spending. The Matignon tenant notably proposed targeted levies on wealthy individuals and certain large companies. This statement provoked an immediate reaction fromEric Ciottiwho strongly criticized this tax approach during a speech on RTL.

Eric Ciottiwho announced his departure from the party presidency on October 1, expressed his opposition to any tax increase affecting the French and businesses. He also said that he would vote for a motion of censure in this case. “I will vote for a motion of censure if there are taxes that hit both the French and businesses.” he hammered home. He denounced what he calls a “intellectual laziness” from the government, accusing it of having increased the deficit – which it estimates at 6% – under the responsibility of the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire.

The Alpes-Maritimes MP also criticised the tendency to increase taxes as a solution to budgetary problems. He then stressed the importance of not anticipating motions of censure before the official presentation of the budget. “We will see the composition of the budget. We have always said: ‘No chaos, no prior censorship'”he concluded.
