Three days after the serious bullet wound of singer Kendji Girac in a traveler camp in Biscarrosse, in the Landes, Olivier Janson, the public prosecutor of Mont-de-Marsan, deemed the theory of “accident, untimely shooting”. The artist, hit by a projectile fired from a firearm, nevertheless assured investigators that it was precisely an accident and that he himself was the author of the shot. His vital prognosis had, for a time, been compromised.

The prosecutor recalls that the pistol in question, a handgun more than a century old, but in perfect working order, required a certain number of precautions before being activated. “To shoot, you have to press a pedal with the palm of your hand, but also the trigger, otherwise the trigger is blocked and the shot cannot fire.” Furthermore, this weapon required specific authorization to be used.

“Alcohol addiction”

On the other hand, Olivier Janson reported the singer’s blood alcohol level was very high on the day of the incident. Kendji Girac had “drank a lot throughout the day”, assures the prosecutor, going against the testimony of some of his relatives affirming that the person concerned was “sober”. The prosecution even reveals that the singer had an “alcohol addiction” and consumed cocaine “once or twice a week”.

Enough to create tensions with his partner, Soraya, who, according to the prosecution, was not fully integrated into the Girac family. Last Sunday, Kendji Girac’s drunken state angered Soraya, because the artist was making noise and preventing their daughter from sleeping. She then allegedly told him to leave the premises before hearing, according to her testimony, a gunshot and discovering her companion seriously injured. According to the prosecutor, the singer then went back on his first statements to claim, in front of the investigators, to have wanted to “simulate a suicide”. “He was very scared when he heard her talking about leaving, he had a moment of panic and in turn wanted to scare her,” said the magistrate.
