Music and the sound of weights resonated in the San Juan bullring this Saturday, September 21.
It was in the rain that the very first Centurions Pescalunes got off to a flying start at the Lunel arenas on Saturday, September 21. Soaked from head to toe, not enough to discourage the athletes of this crossfit competition who started the day off with a bang, in front of an audience that came in their hundreds.
But despite all the positivity surrounding the San Juan enclosure, a heavy downpour fell around 10am, making it impossible to hold the events, forcing everyone to return to the changing rooms. “We had planned an hour break at noon, so we don’t fall too far behind. Then in the worst case, we can be late until around 7:30 p.m., so it’ll be fine.”explains Morgan Vieilly, one of the two brothers who own the Lunel CrossFit gym and are behind this event.
Twenty gridded corridors instead of sand
After more than an hour of interlude, the rain finally stopped, giving way to a few rays of sunshine that brightened the afternoon. The CrossFitters were able to enter the competition area again and the Centurions Pescalunes resumed without further delay. The music could be heard dozens of meters from the entrance, and once the terrace was transformed into a reception village, the public discovered a huge slab of bars, dumbbells, weights, CrossFit machines and climbing ropes appropriated by the athletes.

As a reminder, 122 teams of three (women, men or mixed) are entered in the competition and divided into two levels (intermediate and RX), which challenge each other in six events, three per day.
The Centurions pescalunes continue today, Sunday, September 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last three events at the end of which the winners of each category will be known as well as the nine athletes who won the three RX categories. All will share the famous €10,000 in winnings.
