“a perfectly useless visit” denounces the inter-union

Since Tuesday April 23, 2024, the Minister responsible for Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination Aurore Bergé has been visiting the island. A “useless” trip, “paid for by the taxpayer who is tired of paying for ministers’ trips” denounces the inter-union. Faithful to their promise to denounce the government’s anti-social policy at each ministerial visit, the unions took advantage of this new trip to reiterate their opposition (Illustrative photo rb/www.imazpress.com)

“We cannot let a minister pass without reacting. In addition to her portfolio, Aurore Bergé is a member of a government whose political lines we are fighting most of” recalls Marie-Hélène Dor, departmental secretary of the FSU. “We wonder what it’s for.”

“She is responsible for Equality between women and men, yet we have not heard her denounce the 7 million euros removed from the 2024 budget for this mission” she underlines.

“We are coming out of the fight against pension reform, a reform which penalizes women even more. Has Aurore Bergé spoken out on this subject? No. The glass ceiling also exists in the public service. Does she has spoken out on this? Do we hear about the reduction in funding for National Education? On the mobilization of social workers, who have paltry resources? Listen :

The inter-union denounces a visit which is in reality “an electoral campaign which does not say its name”.

“The time for unnecessary visits is over. What is the point for the Reunionese woman of this lightning visit? If we come it is to announce something. She does nothing except inaugurate a few things, meet personalities and return home she” quips Joël De Palmas, Deputy Secretary General of CGTR Educ’Action.

He regrets that no meetings with “employees from several sectors” were organized “to have a working compass”. “We are not consulted, not solicited. We believe that this is contempt for the employees we represent.”

“In , we have more part-time women, more women in precarious situations. However, all the measures taken by the government will have an even more negative impact on Reunionese women overall, and we have no perspective to modify the shot” regrets Joël De Palmas. Listen :

“When we look at national education, women are very present in primary education, but the further we advance, the less present they are. It’s the same at management level. Inequalities exist at all levels of education. National Education. Have we ever heard about this?” underlines Didier Debals, from SAIPER.

“We said that every time there is a minister we will meet. We will remind as often as necessary that we do not agree with the anti-social policy of the government.”

Concerning the arrival of European candidate Valérie Hayer, who will arrive this Friday in Reunion, the inter-union believes that the members of the presidential party “do not realize their disconnection from the field”. “They are in dire straits, but they do not realize that their poor forecasts are their fault,” assure the unionists.

“What can we expect from an outgoing candidate?” they ask themselves. “Europe is far away for us. It is important for Reunion, but it is far away. What is regrettable is that there have to be elections for us to be interested to us. His coming is not important” they conclude.
