Adriana Karembeu spoke about her young years in her autobiographical book. In “Libre”, released by Leduc, the 52-year-old ex-top model looks back on her “difficult childhood” with a violent father. On the occasion of the release of the book, she spoke to Paris Match.
Talking about her father, Adriana Karembeu explained: “He sometimes hit me, but above all he constantly humiliated me. From morning to night, my father kept saying that I was good for nothing, that I was going to end my life cleaning sewers. When one of your parents, the only people in the world who are supposed to love you unconditionally, tells you that as a child, you believe it,” she said.
“As a child, before going to sleep, I sometimes told myself that it was better for me to die. I felt unwanted, I was just a problem for him, I thought my life would be like nothing since he promised me it would be sad and miserable,” continued Adriana Karembeu.
“I didn’t really have suicidal thoughts,” she qualified, “but I told myself that if I disappeared everyone would be happy. » And added: “This book is not the story of a child martyr even if I was, on the contrary it demonstrates that we can rebuild ourselves. My father damaged my childhood, my person, but today I no longer think about him. I still have the scar, but it no longer bleeds,” the former model said.
Adriana Karembeu emerged from her traumatic childhood “morbidly shy and full of doubts” and has long suffered after-effects: “The child who remains in me never stops fighting to prove the abilities that have been unfairly given to him denied. »

The birth of his daughter saved him
The birth of her daughter Nina, in 2018, born from her past relationship with Aram Ohanian “changed everything, by first bringing up all these wounds”. “I realized how incomprehensible it is that a parent could harm their own child,” she added.
“The first two years, every night, I had the same nightmare. I dreamed that I killed my father with my own hands,” recalled the woman who became a mother at the age of 46. “For the first time, I felt hatred towards him. Before, it was suffering. My daughter swept away all my fears,” she then assured.
Now separated from the father of her daughter, Adriana Karembeu is in a relationship again, although she keeps the identity of her partner to herself. “He made me realize that everything was just beginning. And that it can be even better than before…”, she declared about him.
