An L2 (LMD) medical student at Kongo University (Kongo Central) died at Saint-Luc hospital this Thursday after receiving a bullet during an intercalation between students and soldiers from the Republican Guard. This scene took place on April 26 at the university campus in Kisantu, Madimba territory.
A few days before, the campus had organized a wake for a student who died from drowning in the Inkisi River. The Republican Guard soldiers sent to provide security at the time of mourning wanted to disperse the groups of students formed within the campus that night. This was the beginning of the disagreement between the two parties. The soldiers then opened fire, seriously injuring a student hit in the femur and pelvis, according to the treating doctor at Saint Luc hospital.
“We are truly shocked by the disappearance of our fellow student. We didn’t expect it, we all knew everything would get better. Elements of the Republican Guard threatened us while we were paying last respects to another colleague who had died by drowning. Now their aggressiveness has cost the life of our dear comrade,” said one of the students from Kongo University.
