The case is becoming more specific. A young man in his twenties was arrested last Sunday as part of the investigation into the death of a 38-year-old man in Rennes on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
At around 1:35 a.m., a violent altercation broke out Place Rallier du Baty, in the city center. Stabbed several times, a A Moroccan man died of his injuries an hour later despite the intervention of emergency services.
Betrayed by his DNA
Thanks to DNA traces found at the scene, investigators were able to trace the man arrested on Sunday. In police custody, the suspect admitted to “fighting with the victim and stabbing him,” said Frédéric Teillet, the Public Prosecutor in Rennes, confirming information from Ouest-France.
The individual is well known to the police. “His criminal record shows nine convictions (almost all from juvenile courts) for drug trafficking and aggravated theft, some of which involved violence,” the prosecution said. While the precise circumstances of the fight remain to be established, the young man was charged with murder on Tuesday, September 17, and placed in pretrial detention.
