Death of Kamilya in Vallauris: CCTV images of the accident incriminate the biker

BFMTV revealed, this Tuesday, September 17, new information concerning the accident which occurred on August 29.

The television channel was able to view CCTV footage of the incident which cost the life of Kamilya, the 7-year-old girl hit by a motorbike.

These images raise questions about the version of events put forward by Matteo B., the suspect.

On the one hand, the rear wheelie performed by the motorcyclist would have lasted a few seconds. In one of the sequences, we can see the 19-year-old’s motorcycle rearing up. “We can see the motorcycle with its light on, which suggests that it has its two wheels on the ground.”note the police officers in charge of the investigation, after viewing the videos.

Then, “the motorcycle’s light is no longer visible, the motorcyclist has reared up his motorcycle”, they add. “We can see that his handlebars are no longer in line with the rear wheel, suggesting that he is maneuvering to keep his motorcycle stable.”they write in their report.

During his hearing before the investigating chamber on September 10, the suspect had nevertheless claimed that the wheel of his motorcycle had lifted “involuntarily”CCTV footage, which shows the handlebars in motion, could call this explanation into question.

Another element that caught the attention of investigators: Matteo B. allegedly used his mobile phone while driving. In some images, the police observed an unusual gesture by the motorcyclist, who “appears to be looking at something as he lowers his head and holds an object in his left hand. Then he lowers his hand towards his left leg.”

Also during the hearing, the suspect assured that his phone was neither in his pocket nor in his hand, but on a support located on the handlebars of the motorcycle.

The mystery of the backpack

The CCTV footage also shows that the motorcyclist was carrying an Uber Eats delivery bag (a company he had worked for). Matteo B. explained during the hearing that he used the bag for personal use, and that it only contained a few belongings.

However, this bag was never found. After the accident, Matteo B. said he put it on the ground, before it disappeared.

For the time being, the main suspect remains free under judicial supervision. He is charged with “involuntary manslaughter by the driver of a motor vehicle” and for “deliberate violation of a safety or prudence obligation”. He faces a sentence of 7 years in prison.

Kamilya’s father, Slim Oussaya, expressed his anger in the columns of -Matin. “If it had been a car accident, I would have accepted it,” he told us, explaining that he wanted to grant Matteo B. his pardon, which the latter refused, not considering himself guilty. “I should not expect justice to do its job,” concluded Slim Oussaya in our article. “She just has to be strict.”
